The SPLC's Head-Scratching Decision to Put Turning Point USA on the Hate Map
Was it intentional? Was it a mistake?
The Southern Poverty Law Center is the worst of the worst, and I do not find it surprising in the least that it put the largest conservative grassroots youth organization—Turning Point USA—on the “hate map” alongside chapters of the Ku Klux Klan.
What I find surprising is how this arm of the Woketopus did it.
Anyone remotely familiar with the SPLC or with my extensive coverage of it should know that the SPLC exaggerates hate by counting chapters of organizations as their own separate hate groups. Thus, “Moms for Liberty” counts as 251 “antigovernment extremist groups” on the 2024 “hate map.”
This enables the SPLC to juice the numbers. The latest “hate map,” released Thursday, includes 1,371 “hate groups” and “antigovernment extremist groups.” The SPLC intends this number to be scary, to terrify donors into ponying up cash. As Bob Moser, a former SPLC employee said, these “hate” accusations are a “highly profitable scam.”
Yet, the SPLC did two things in the 2024 “hate map.” The SPLC included turning Point USA on the “hate map,” and the SPLC left off the more than 1,000 chapters of Turning Point USA from the “hate map.”
